XbotGo Falcon Review: Strong Hardware, Software Needs Work

I received my XbotGo Falcon in mid-February as one of the early customers. I’m based in Southern Germany and bought it specifically to record full-size 11v11 football matches (A-Junior level, ages 17-19) on artificial turf and natural grass under typical local weather.

Bottom line: solid hardware, but the software isn’t ready for full-field football.

Delivery and Packaging

Shipping from China took nearly three weeks, which was frustrating. The protective case is well-built, but there’s no dedicated space for the tripod mount. Carry it separately or risk scratches.

Setup and Documentation

Installation and connection were straightforward. Finding actual documentation was not. The website is cluttered and mixes different product lines. A simple PDF manual and quick-start guide would fix this immediately.

Recording Quality

Image quality is good. No stuttering. Ball tracking held up reliably across a full-size pitch, which genuinely impressed me. Rain was a non-issue despite no lens cover.

The limitation: 30 FPS only. For match analysis, 60 FPS matters.

The Big Problem: AI Zoom

This is where the camera falls short for 11v11. The zoom behavior feels random. On a full-size pitch, the camera frequently stays too wide, making players and the ball too small to analyze. When it does zoom, it doesn’t follow game context in any meaningful way.

There’s also no manual zoom override. That’s a critical missing feature.

Highlights and Goal Detection

I expected automatic goal detection. It isn’t there. Highlights also require manual marking during or after the match, which isn’t realistic when you’re watching an 11v11 game.

App Usability

Reviewing footage on a smartphone is genuinely difficult. The lack of zoom compounds this. Landscape mode breaks some functions entirely. If manual highlight marking is required, users need a proper desktop or web-based interface.

Statistics and Scoreboard

The match statistics referenced in marketing material weren’t accessible in the app. The scoreboard overlay was incorrect and couldn’t be edited afterwards.

Watermark

The permanent “XbotGo Falcon” logo in the bottom-right corner cannot be disabled. Paying customers shouldn’t be forced to display advertising on their own footage. Make it optional.

The motor noise in recordings is also noticeable and unexpected at this price point.

Support

Responsive, friendly, and helpful. A genuine positive.

Verdict

Would I buy it again? Yes, reluctantly. The hardware is solid and ball tracking works. At 600-700 EUR, the value is acceptable.

But for full-size 11v11 football, it’s not yet fit for purpose. The AI zoom and match intelligence need to catch up to the hardware.
