Pixellot vs Veo vs Hudl

Welcome to the battle of the soccer (and sports) cameras. This is the current landscape of AI sports cameras in 2026. If you want to record games without a cameraman, you usually look at three names: Pixellot, Veo, and Hudl.

Check out our post on lower-budget options for parents here (including the Veo Go and the XBotGo Falcon.)

They all do the same basic thing. They use two lenses to see the whole field. They use software to follow the ball. They give you a video that looks like a broadcast….but they are very different once you start using them every weekend.

Here is the breakdown.

1. Pixellot AIR NXT: The Value King

pixellot air nxt

The AIR NXT is the newest portable from Pixellot. It costs about $949. That is lower than the other Pixellot cams. It’s super-light. It weighs less than 2kg. You can throw it in a bag and forget it’s there. (Not always a good thing, but often a great thing.)

The Hardware

It uses dual 12MP sensors. This gives you a 4K view. It captures a 200-degree field of vision. You won’t miss the corners of the pitch.

The storage is massive. It comes with up to 512GB. That is about 32 hours of video. You can record a whole weekend tournament without a laptop. That matters when the field Wi-Fi is bad.

The Battery

It has a 6-hour battery. Most games are 90 minutes. You can get three or four games on one charge. It also supports fast charging via USB-C. You can plug in a power bank if you get desperate.

The Software

Pixellot is built for broadcasting. If you want to stream games to parents with ads or a paywall, Pixellot is the best. They have a white-label OTT platform. It makes your club look like a pro team.

The analysis is fine. It’s not as deep as Hudl. It tracks shots and goals. It’s simple. It works.

2. Veo Cam 3: The Gold Standard for Coaches

Veo is the most popular choice for a reason. The Veo Cam 3 is the current model. It costs around $1,199 to $1,499.

Veo 3 Video Quality

Veo 3 shoots in 4K at 60fps. This is a big deal. Most AI cameras shoot at 30fps. At 60fps, the motion is smooth. When you slow down a clip to see a foul, it isn’t a blurry mess.

The lenses handle low light better than the AIR NXT. If you play under bad stadium lights at 8:00 PM, Veo stays clearer.

5G Connectivity

This is where Veo wins. You can get a 5G version. You put a SIM card in the camera. You hit a button. You are live. You don’t need a hotspot. You don’t need a phone. It just works.

The Coaching Tools

Veo’s “Editor” is the best in the business. It automatically finds goals, corners, and free kicks. It does this faster than Pixellot.

You can draw on the screen. You can create a “Journal” for a player. You can say, “Look at your positioning here.” Then you send it to their phone. It makes coaching easier. It saves time.

3. Hudl Focus Flex: The Recruitment Machine

Hudl is the most expensive. The Focus Flex (their portable model) is about $1,999. You aren’t just buying a camera. You are buying the Hudl ecosystem.

The Network

In the US, every high school uses Hudl. If you want to get recruited, your video needs to be on Hudl. It’s where the scouts are.

The Flex is designed to feed that system. You record the game, and it goes straight to your Hudl library.

Hudl Video Specs

It records in 1080p. That sounds worse than 4K. On paper, it is. But Hudl’s software is very good at “zooming” without losing much. It’s clear enough for scouting.

It doesn’t have the 180-degree “tactical” view that Veo offers as easily. It’s more focused on the broadcast follow.

Setting Up the Hudl

The Flex is a bit more work. You need a specific tripod. It feels more like a “pro” tool and less like a consumer gadget. It’s built to last. It’s heavy. It’s tough.

Comparing the Costs

Don’t just look at the camera price. The subscriptions are what get you.

The Subscription Trap

  • Pixellot has a lower entry cost but their “advanced” coaching tools cost extra.
  • Veo requires a monthly or yearly sub to even use the camera. If you stop paying, the camera is a brick.
  • Hudl is a package deal. It is expensive, but it includes the library, the exchange, and the tools.

Which One Should You Buy?

Buy Pixellot AIR NXT if…

You have a tight budget. You want to record a lot of games and don’t care about deep tactical drawings. You just want clear 4K video and a camera that lasts all day. It’s a workhorse. It’s cheap. It’s light. Get the Pixellot here.

Buy Veo Cam 3 if…

You are a coach. You want the best video quality possible. You want to live stream via 5G without any extra gear. You want to be able to tag a player and send them a clip in two minutes. It is the best all-around tool. Get the VEO here.

Buy Hudl Focus Flex if…

You are in a US high school program. You want your kids to play in college. You are already paying for Hudl software. Just get the camera that fits the system. Don’t fight the network.

The Reality of AI Cameras

They aren’t perfect.

Sometimes the AI follows a ref. Sometimes it thinks a bald head is a ball. This happens to all of them. Maybe once a game. You have to be okay with that.

If you want 100% perfection, hire a person. If you want 95% perfection for the price of a few months of labor, get the camera.

Setup Times

I’ve timed these.

  • Pixellot: 3 minutes.
  • Veo: 4 minutes.
  • Hudl: 10 minutes.

You need a tall tripod. At least 12 feet. 15 feet is better. It’s worth spending on a dedicated sports camera tripod made to go as high as 16 feet. Buy right and buy once. If the camera is too low, the AI gets confused by players overlapping. Get the camera as high as possible for best recording results.

Final Thoughts

Most people choose between Pixellot and Veo.

If you want the best image quality, get the Veo 3. The 60fps makes a difference. If you want the best price and more storage, get the AIR NXT.

Just stop filming with your phone. It’s 2026. Let the machine do it. So much better for D1 college highlight reels.
