Beautiful Vancouver: 5 Reasons Vancouver Is A Good City For Kids

I love traveling! I have been all over North America, and some of my favourite places have been Nevada, Arizona, especially Sedona, and the Mojave Desert in California…

Sadly, since Covid- 19 I haven't been able to travel so I have been traveling virtually, listening to online webinars about various places (like Iceland), and one of the places that I would love to explore further is Vancouver, BC in Canada.

Canada is a big, beautiful country, and I have always been intrigued by Vancouver – what to do when visiting, or if you want to live there, why it's a good city for kids. These things are all important because after all, I'm a kid!

Meet Vancouver, BC

Vancouver, BC found on the west coast of Canada is not only a great city but has also racked up many, many accolades. 

The travel website, Expedia, named Vancouver as one of the most active and best places for families to visit and for those who want to stay permanently to raise kids. Yes, Vancouver is a good city for kids!Slice.ca names Vancouver one of the greenest cities in Canada, poised to be one of the greenest cities in the world, and if that's not a great reason to live and experience all that is Vancouver, then I don't know what is!

The Landscape

So let's start with one of the best reasons Vancouver is a great place – the dazzling outdoor landscape.

Everyone knows that being outdoors is one of the healthiest things for people, especially kids and with Vancouver's landscape being amongst the most beautiful in the world, one of the best things to do there is to get outside!

With its mix of beautiful beaches, mountains, ocean, and lakes, there are so many opportunities for kids to get out and get active. The locals love the beauty of Vancouver and rightfully so. With a great climate and the possibility of so many outdoor activities to take part in it's no wonder why people flock to Vancouver.

Outdoor Activities

With its proximity to both mountains and ocean, Vancouver is perfect for offering every kind of outdoor sport and adventure your kid would want to try.

From winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and hockey, quintessential summer sports like boating, and kayaking, to year-round sports like biking – there is never a lack of things to do outdoors in Vancouver. Of course, just a short distance away you can completely immerse yourself in nature by enjoying the hiking trails or camping!

Parks and Beaches

If all the sports were not enough to get excited about there are plenty of gorgeous parks and beaches all around Vancouver that families can enjoy.

One of the most popular beaches in Vancouver is Sunset Beach. If you guessed by the name of the beach that Sunset Beach has the best sunsets, then you would be correct. Sunset beach is one of the best beaches in Vancouver. Another fabulous and kid friendly beach in Vancouver is Kits Beach!

Not only that but the city of Vancouver has 150 playgrounds scattered throughout the city making it easy for kids to have fun!

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is one of the best places to go in all of Vancouver. Located in downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park's 1000 acres is filled with beautiful West Coast rainforest. With tons of outdoor activities, the locals love Stanley Park. There are so many things to do in Stanley Park from enjoying the beaches and trails, Horse-Drawn Tours, and a local favourite, a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium, Canada’s largest, located inside Stanley Park!

Kids in Vancouver absolutely adore the aquarium! The aquarium has over 70,000 animals and 30 unique exhibits. Famous for its cute and fluffy sea otters. You can actually watch the sea otters on the cam live at their website right now.

Museums, Cultural Events and Food

Vancouver is full of museums, cultural events, and a great food scene.

For a great learning experience consider taking the kids to visit museums like the Telus World of Science, Maritime Museum, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the HR MacMillan Space Center!

Another great learning experience for kids is the myriad of cultural events that go on in Vancouver. Festivals like the Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Celebration of Lights is another reason why Vancouver is a good city for kids!

Don't forget to try the various cuisines that make up the Vancouver food scene. There are tons of restaurants and food tours to satisfy the most avid foodie!

If you are an avid sports fan, why not take in a game! If your child loves hockey, soccer or football, come cheer on the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Whitecaps, BC Lions or Pacific FC!

Kid Friendly Neighborhoods And Good Schools

With all the great things to do and explore in the city of Vancouver, it is no wonder that many people decide to move there permanently.  Thankfully, Vancouver is filled with great schools and kid friendly neighbourhoods to choose from. So if you decide to raise your family in Vancouver, remember that there are lots of Vancouver homes for sale to explore.

Undoubtedly, with all of its attractions, Vancouver is a good city for kids! With so much to do and see, Vancouver is on my list for one of the top places to visit in the near future!
